Eastover clean-up 'Rocks the Block'
Residents of Eastover Estates were treated to an afternoon of free food, clothes, and fun for kids and adults alike after a day in the sweltering heat cleaning and working to beautify the neighborhood. Destiny International Church sponsored the June 27 block party in Eastover Estates called "Rock the Block."

Pastor Leland Hodges organized and led Destiny's Rock the Block Party and Rock the River's "Eastover Makeover" that was sponsored by Franklin Graham Ministries.

Teens and adults from many local churches volunteered their time to cut lawns and pick up trash. It was an inspiring sight: people from various churches in Baton Rouge, Livingston Parish, and as far away as Mississippi working together to make the community a better place.

Organizers send a special thanks and honorable mention to Livingston Parish President Mike Grimmer and Councilman Buddy Mincy for getting dumpsters on site and additional trash pick-up for the "Eastover Makeover."

The Eastover Estates Block party was a great success and fun for everyone involved. Neil (above right) won the $50 Door Prize from Bass Pro.

Space walks, games, goodie bags and raffles were all a part of the fun. Puppet shows and skits were included in the line up as youth from Faith Family Church and Destiny International Church had the kids on the edge of their seats.

The grand finale was the raffling off of new bicycles, toys and gift cards. The Block Party was a wonderful ending to a day of reaching out and serving the people in our community and selflessly giving to others.

"We have so many wonderful people and leaders in our community and it was never evidenced more than what we saw today," Pastor Hodges said
